Every product we sell is personalized, so this page is the whole catalog viewed through the question of what kind of personalization you want. That question matters more than most people expect, because the four methods behave completely differently and are not interchangeable.

Engraving and etching

Cut into the surface, permanent, monochrome, and unaffected by washing or wear. This is what we use on glass, stainless steel, and wood: the whiskey and rocks glasses, the wine glass, the hip flask, the cufflinks, the business card holder, the steel beads on the leather bracelet, and the acacia serving boards. Choose it when you want the gift to look identical in twenty years. The constraint is that you get text and simple marks — no photographs, no color.

Printing

Full color, photographic, and applied across the whole surface. This is what makes the phone cases, desk mats, mouse pads, laptop sleeves, aprons, luggage covers and travel bags possible. Choose it when the personalization is an image rather than a name — a photo of his dog, a map, a pattern. The honest trade-off is that print sits on the surface and will show wear before an engraving will, particularly on something that lives in a bag.

Embroidery

Stitched thread, used on the caps, the beanie, the gym bag and the cooler bag. It reads more casual than engraving and more durable than print. Best for initials, short words, and simple shapes — detail gets lost, so a long name on a cap brim is not a good idea.

Leather, engraved

Our leather goods — wallets, card holders, passport covers, watch bands, phone cases, the iPad folio — are PU vegan leather. It takes engraving cleanly and evenly, holds color, and needs no conditioning, which for a wallet that lives in a back pocket is arguably the better property. What it will not do is develop the patina full-grain hide develops over a decade. Worth knowing before you buy, especially for an anniversary where the material itself is the tradition.

What to write, and how much of it

Shorter is better on every one of these. Initials survive nicknames, name changes and the passage of time; a full sentence rarely reads as well on the object as it did in the preview box. Check the character limit and the spelling before you order — personalized items cannot be exchanged for a mistake in what you typed.
