Sizing — check the chest, not the label

Two sizes, and they are generous: S/M fits a 32–40" chest and is 47" long. L/XL fits a 40–54" chest and is 50" long. Measure around the fullest part of his chest rather than guessing from his shirt size, and note the length — 47 inches is mid-calf on a man of average height and shorter on a tall one. Personalized items cannot be exchanged for a different size, so this is the one measurement worth getting right.

Be honest about the white

It is a white bathrobe. It looks like a good hotel and it shows everything — coffee, aftershave, hair dye, a dog. That is the trade, and it is the reason hotels wash theirs at 60°C. If he is careless with what he wears at breakfast, this will not stay looking like the photograph.

What to embroider

Initials or a short name on the chest. Embroidery on terry cloth loses fine detail more than on flat cotton, because the loops break up thin lines — so bold letters, no script, nothing long. A monogram is the version that reads properly.

Care

Cotton terry softens with washing and takes a long time to dry. Wash before first use to open up the pile.
