What to embroider

Short. Embroidery loses fine detail, so initials, a surname, a place, or a single word works and a full sentence across the front does not. A small mark on the side panel reads more expensive than a large one across the front, which tends to look like team merchandise.

Which color

Black and navy are safe and go with everything he already owns. Khaki and dark green read more considered and less sporty. White shows dirt within a season on a cap that gets worn outdoors; royal is a commitment.

Where it works less well
